The volume is a much extended and augmented, freshly researched version in colour of the Iconography of the First Duke of Wellington by Gerald Wellesley, 7th Duke of Wellington, the author’s grandfather. Published in 1935, The Iconography has been the prime source for anyone wanting to know about a portrait or sculpture of the 1st Duke. The book opens with an essay by David Cannadine which describes the background to Wellington’s illustrious career as soldier, politician and statesman. This is followed by a copiously illustrated account of the Duke’s portraits. The book concludes with a full illustrated catalogue, including many portraits in the Family Collection.
